The area --

Mason County stands at the base of Washington State's Olympic Peninsula, with its southeastern side facing the southern and western extremities of Puget Sound. This area -- sometimes called the State's "Lake District" -- also includes about 200 lakes, many rivers and estuaries, and some 300 miles of shoreline along Puget Sound and the Hood Canal. The map at right shows only the eastern side of Mason County, and only two of Mason County's larger lakes.

Club kayak trips are planned primarily for locations within 25 miles of the triangle formed by Shelton, Hoodsport, and Belfair. Some outings explore more distant parts of Puget Sound and the Hood Canal, and other Olympic Peninsula area waters or other nearby lakes and rivers of special interest.

In addition to providing kayakers with many varied settings for outings, the area offers abundant wildlife, vistas of tree-covered hills and mountain peaks, easy access to State and national forests and parks, and a host of other outdoor recreation opportunities. A few of the many scenic locations visited on Club outings are depicted in photographs on this Website.
